This year our 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in an overnight outdoor eduction experience at Pali Institute. Pali is located in Running Springs, California, on 72 acres in the San Bernadino Mountains, surrounded by 2000 acres of scenic beauty.
The purpose of the field trip is for our students to learn independence, strengthen leadership skills, participate in team building activities and explore the wonders of nature through outdoor education. In groups of 15 students to 1 Pali Instructor the students will engage in activities including: orienteering (use of compass, topographical maps, GPS etc.), freshwater biology (ecology), archery, campfire, a night hike and stargazing. (Students are within instructor’s view at all times.)
Pali Institute is an approved LAUSD field trip destination. It is a gated facility with 24-hour surveillance, a full-time registered nurse, full-time staff coverage / supervision by qualified instructors holding Bachelor’s degrees or higher. The instructors undergo a Federal background check and are CPR trained and certified.
The students will stay in cabins – with 11 students and 1 Pali instructor. Each cabin has at least 1 indoor bathroom, radiant floor heating, and comfortable bunk beds.
We will be hosting a parent information night (Thursday, January 26th) as well as a meeting for the students participating.
Total cost for the trip is $270 per student. $135 due now - and the remaining $135 due January 23rd.
This field trip is encouraged but not mandatory. We hope that all students will attend – and will fund raise to offset costs for any with financial restrictions. For those families that choose not to participate there will be regular class at Calvert over the three days.
